Evaluation

There were several things I had to do in this radio project. One of the first things I had to do was create a five second ident with my name and a sound effect in it. For this I chose a sound effect I liked the sound of and then recorded my voice. I placed my voice just before the sound effect to get my five second ident. I didn't have enough time to use sound effects on my voice due to initial problems recording my voice. If I was to do this again I would definitely use sound effects on my voice to make it sound more interesting and professional.

I was then set the task of making a radio advert featuring a made up product. In this advert we had to include the name, what the product actually did and the price. Then we had to make our own show promo featuring the name of the radio station SNC Live, our name, the type of music playing, the days it’s on and the times.

For the advert, I created an idea of a pen that could be turned into a pencil or paintbrush by replacing the pen top. Once I created this idea, I searched in the loops section for music that would suit my idea. I then searched for some beats to make my advert  catchier. I used a male voiceover as my target audience is for geeky males. I added the voiceover and added effects “Wow!” and “Yeah” as well as cheering and screaming in excitement so my product seemed so much more special and cool then it actually was. I also added the slogan of ‘Be different, be cool,’ to add to this effect.

I like the way it turned out because it all ties in together to my target audience of teenage geeky males in school with the funky music, enthusiastic comments, cheering, screaming in excitement and an enthusiastic voiceover to go with that. The beat and music is catchy so works and blends well together with everything else. I think because of this if it was a real advert, the target audience would be very tempted to pick up the product.
The thing I didn’t like was at the end when unwanted background voices could be heard. I also think that it could be a little too cheesy with the screaming man acting over the top, so it could be seen for boys in Primary School.
Lastly, I created a twenty second show promo that had to feature the name of the station, the presenter, the time and day the show would be on and the type of music that would be playing. I wanted to include music currently in the UKTop 40 as my fictional radio show would be playing current tracks. I set the time around 5 to 6pm, because my target audience of teenagers to young adults would have finished college and school before then.
I downloaded some current tracks from the UKTop 40 charts and shortened each of the tracks to the best part of the song. I then added sound effects in between to make a smooth and interesting transition between songs. I recorded my voice next including all of the information then, used an echo sound effect on my voice to once again make my show promo sound more interesting and cool at the same time.
I like how my music blended well together in a timely manner as I gave each of the music on my show promo the same amount of time to play before switching it to another song. I think it kept my show promo interesting. I also like how well my voice sounded with the echo as it made my show promo sound edgier and cool. If I was to do it again I would play around with sound effects on my voice more.
